Why choose QRdx over QRFY?

The areas where QRdx is the stronger pick. The guide below also covers where QRFY is the better choice.

A free plan, not a 7-day clock

QRFY starts with a 7-day trial; when it ends, its support docs say dynamic codes are deactivated and linked to a service page. QRdx Free has no time limit, includes dynamic codes, and they keep redirecting whatever plan you are on.

Monthly billing from $5

QRFY has no monthly plan: the shortest term is 3 months for $117, and the yearly plan works out at $19 a month. QRdx Pro is $5 a month or $48 a year, and you can cancel at any time.

Your printed codes are never held hostage

Under the QRdx Never-Hostage Guarantee, dynamic codes keep redirecting after a downgrade, a failed payment or a cancellation, with no ads or interstitials. Limits only stop you creating new codes.

Open source, with a developer toolkit

QRdx is AGPL-3.0 and self-hostable, and comes with a REST API, an MCP server, a React library on npm and a CLI. QRFY is closed source with an API capped per day.

QRdx or QRFY: which should you use?

QRFY and QRdx both make dynamic QR codes that you can edit after printing, with scan analytics and hosted mobile pages. They differ most in how they charge and in what happens to your codes when you stop paying.

Who each tool is for

QRFY suits teams that want every feature on one plan and are happy to commit to at least three months. Its single plan includes unlimited dynamic codes, unlimited scans, all 25 QR types, bulk creation, Google and Facebook pixels and a custom domain. It is priced at 117perquarter,117 per quarter, 174 per half-year or $228 per year, with no monthly option.

QRdx suits people who want to start free and pay monthly, if at all. Static codes are free and need no account. The Free plan adds 10 dynamic codes and 3 hosted pages, Pro (5/moor5/mo or 48/yr) makes both unlimited and adds password protection, expiry dates, smart routing and custom domains, and Business (15/moor15/mo or 144/yr) adds unlimited team members, webhooks and white-label pages. You can also self-host the whole thing.

Where QRFY is the better choice

  • Localized site. QRFY's site and app are available in 40 languages. QRdx is English only for now.
  • More hosted page types. QRFY lists 17 hosted page types, including product pages with ingredients and certifications, playlists and a GS1 2D barcode type. QRdx covers link lists, business pages, vCard Plus, PDFs, galleries, audio and video, but not all of QRFY's types.
  • Change the type after printing. QRFY lets you switch a printed code to a different QR type. In QRdx you can change a dynamic code's destination at any time, but turning a redirect code into a hosted page isn't supported yet.
  • Everything on one plan. If you need unlimited users and every feature from day one, QRFY's single plan is simpler than choosing between QRdx tiers.

Key differences

  • Trial and cancellation. QRFY's support documentation says codes made during the trial are "deactivated and linked to a service page" when it ends. On cancellation, its FAQ says your codes "won't go anywhere" but you can't access them or their data until you pay again. QRdx dynamic codes keep redirecting on every plan, including after a cancellation, and you can export each code's scans as CSV at any time.
  • Billing terms. QRFY's shortest plan is three months. QRdx bills monthly or yearly, with yearly working out cheaper.
  • Price for small users. One person with a handful of codes pays 0onQRdxandatleast0 on QRdx and at least 117 up front on QRFY after the trial.
  • Static codes. QRdx has 33 static types (Wi-Fi, vCard, UPI, payments, social profiles and more) that need no account. QRFY lists 7 static types.
  • Openness. QRdx is open source under AGPL-3.0, so you can audit how scans are counted or run your own instance. QRFY is closed source.

Switching from QRFY

  1. Check what happens to your QRFY codes before you cancel. Dynamic codes redirect through QRFY's servers, so printed codes depend on your QRFY account.
  2. Create new codes in QRdx for anything you're about to print. QRdx short links use their own 7-character slugs, so existing QRFY codes can't move over as they are.
  3. Use a custom domain you own (Pro and up) for new codes, so your short links carry your brand.
  4. Rebuild hosted pages in the QRdx page editor and test every code on real phones before printing.

QRdx's Never-Hostage Guarantee explains exactly what happens to your codes on every plan.
